Welcome to TARAA, an online toolkit to help abortion researchers and advocates in Sub-Saharan Africa to expand safe abortion access in their countries.

What does the toolkit contain?

The teaching and learning resources included have been collaboratively identified or developed by the Guttmacher Institute, AISE Consulting, and Guttmacher’s partners in Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Our partners identified a wide range of abortion research methodologies and communications tools they wanted covered in a toolkit. AISE provided support in developing the toolkit. The toolkit currently focuses on abortion incidence estimation methodologies, which the Guttmacher Institute has particular expertise in and was the focus of capacity strengthening efforts during the work that led to the development of this toolkit.

The toolkit is a collection of authoritative and adaptable resources that abortion researchers and advocates can use in building their capacity to independently conduct abortion research, effectively communicate evidence and advocate for policy changes that promote safe abortion. How will it evolve?

This is the first publicly available version of this online toolkit. This site will continue to evolve under the leadership of African abortion researchers and advocates. Future updates to the toolkit will involve adding resources relevant to other areas of abortion research, evidence communication and advocacy.
