Chama Cha Uzazi na Malezi Bora Tanzania (UMATI) develops programs that combine evidence with on-the-ground experience to deliver innovative solutions related to sexual and reproductive health and rights and family planning with maximum efficiency and impact.

Purpose of the collaboration

The Guttmacher Institute partnered with UMATI to disseminate new evidence quantifying the cost to the Tanzanian national health system of treating complications from unsafe abortions.

Capacity strengthening activities accomplished

Trained UMATI staff to use the SMART advocacy approach by leveraging existing Guttmacher data.
Guttmacher and UMATI staff conducted two workshops for abortion researchers on effective communication.
