Saint Paul’s Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights aims to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity through coordinated sexual reproductive health, clinical service, training, research and advocacy to enable girls and women to reach their full potential.
The Talent Youth Association (TaYA) is a local, youth-led nongovernmental organization that works to improve young people’s sexual and reproductive health by empowering them to take an active role in their own development and that of their country.
Purpose of the collaboration
This initiative brought together new and established abortion researchers in Ethiopia to strengthen their skills in independently conducting high-quality abortion research, facilitate collaboration among local abortion researchers and communicate new evidence to key audiences.
Capacity strengthening activities accomplished
- Conducted an online needs assessment survey with abortion researchers and stakeholders and focus-group discussions with senior researchers and key stakeholders to identify capacity gaps related to abortion research
- Conducted two abortion research trainings for early-career and midcareer researchers
- Conducted two workshops to optimize partners’ abortion advocacy skills: one focused on SMART advocacy and the second on digital advocacy
- Developed a presentation on effective online communication
- Conducted a workshop to help youth develop social media assets and implement a multiplatform social media campaign about the impact of COVID-19 on adolescents
- Conducted a workshop on values clarification and attitude transformation to support access to safe abortion
