Preparatory Work

Conducting abortion research, communicating evidence and advocating for change can be challenging. An important first step is understanding the context in which capacity strengthening is taking place. This will inform how research is conducted and how evidence is communicated for maximum impact.

The following approaches and associated resources are designed to help with preparatory activities:

• Conduct a political economy analysis, a structured approach for understanding the sociopolitical and cultural influences on the targeted change
• Understand the abortion values, beliefs and stigma in the target context.
• Conduct stakeholder mapping.
